Research on STD / AIDS: Socio-Demographic Determinants and Future Scenarios
Combined with the project “Enhancing the Debate: Diverging Responses AIDS in Brazil”, by ABIA, this publication provides notes on the seminar held in 2001 and the two reference texts that formed the basis for discussions. The first, entitled “Research on HIV / AIDS in Brazil Today: an Analysis of the Triennium 1997-2000”, Francisco Inácio Bastos Monica and Malta (both from Fiocruz), sought to survey and analyze scientific literature on AIDS in various areas of knowledge, during the period 1997 to 2000, and the second, “Social Research on Sexuality and AIDS in Brazil: Between Demographics and Sexual Culture”, written by Maria Cristina Pimenta (then at CN – DST/AIDS) in collaboration with André Carlos Passarelli (ABIA), Ivo Brito (CN-DST/AIDS) and Richard Parker (ABIA and Columbia University), is a reflection on the research on sexual behavior developed in Brazil since the advent of AIDS epidemic until the present day.
